Description

The Waxleaf Ligustrum is a large multi-stemmed, broadleaf evergreen shrub that maintains a very dense, symmetrical and rounded canopy. Uses in the landscape range from large shrub, privacy hedge (when mass planted), or use as an evergreen ornamental tree. Waxleaf Ligustrums have 2 to 3 inch long leaves that are stiff and leathery with a glossy deep green color on top and a lighter silver-gray color underside. Large clusters of white flowers will bloom from mid-summer to autumn. Each cluster that is produced has hundreds of white flowers and each cluster can range from 6-12 inches long. In the summer Waxleaf Ligustrums produce small green berries that turn blue to purple-black in the fall. Once established, it is drought tolerant and has a medium salt tolerance. Growth rate is approximately 2 feet per year; at maturity they can reach a height and width between 10-15+ feet.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Ligustrum can be planted in full sun or partial shade and in a variety of soil types. While ligustrum should be watered after planting, they do not usually require much watering. They also do not require much pruning, unless you want to create a more formal hedge. If needed, prune in the early spring. It has a medium salt tolerance.
