Description

The Red Dogwood tree makes a breathtaking addition to any yard or landscape all year long! In the springtime this variety produces vibrant dark pink blooms that darken as the tree matures. However, the beauty of the Dogwood does not stop there. In the fall the Dogwood's green foliage turns a fiery red shade. Beautiful charcoal bark and red fruit compose the winter look of this variety. This fruit is a favorite winter food for many bird species. The Dogwood prefers partial shade and well-drained soil. In addition this plant also prefers soil that is slightly acidic, which helps with the draining process. The Dogwood grows at a fairly rapid pace, and can reach a mature height from 15-25 feet with a 25 foot spread. It is hardy in Zones 5-7.

USDA ZONES: Zone 5, Zone 6, Zone 7

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Dogwoods should be planted in partial shade and in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Apply a layer of mulch but keep it away from the tree's trunk. Once planted, water regularly until the tree is established. Dogwoods need little to no fertilizing and pruning. Prune in the summer if you want to maintain the tree's shape or remove dead branches.

Ready for Red Dogwoods

I purchased two Red Dogwoods, and both arrived in great condition. I can't wait to see them in bloom this year.

Red Dogwood

I was concerned when my tree arrived because the leaves had holes and brown and black spots all over them. I planted it and prayed for its survival.
I am already seeing new growth. It's a beautiful shape and size and I can't wait for spring, hopeful that it will bloom in its first spring.

Tree arrived well boxed and in perfect condition. Good size and well leafed out. It was in the ground the next day and seems to be thriving. I look forward to seeing it in bloom next spring. Always satisfied with everything I have ordered from Plant Me Green. And their custom service is top notch. Never any negative issues. Plant Me Green is one of my two favorite go to online plant nurseries. Quality nursery stock, reliable and professional. Highly recommend.
