The Oklahoma Redbud, also known Texas Redbud (Var. texensis; formerly Cercis reniformis), is a distinct and captivating variety of Eastern Redbud native to Oklahoma and Texas. This tree is renowned for its profuse magenta flowers that blanket its branches in early spring, creating a spectacular display that enhances any landscape. Unlike the straight species, the Oklahoma Redbud boasts a shrubbier, more compact form. It stands out with several unique characteristics: slightly enhanced drought tolerance, darker and brighter wine-red buds and blossoms, and glossy, thicker, broader leaves with a characteristic kidney-shaped (reniform) outline and rounded, blunt tips.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Plant your redbud in full sun or partial shade, but do not plant in low-lying areas where too much water can accumulate. Mulch around tree, taking care to keep room between the mulch and the tree trunk. Prune redbuds in winter or early spring to create your desired shape.

Oklahoma Red Bud Tree

We had one OK Red Bud tree given to us from our daufhter. We lost 3 Flowering Cherry trees to a storm last year. Since the OK Red Bud has done so well we decided that the 3 lost trees would be replaced by the Ok Red Bud. The trees arrrived in great shape and were planted 2 days after they arrived. We are looking forward to their growing and showing their beautiful spring color next year!!

Immediate transplant shock on planting.

Arrived in good condition. Planted the same day as arrival, -mulch, supportive stakes, the works. However, within 24 hours leaves started to blacken. Now I'm hoping it will bounce back otherwise I will have to find out just how good the Plant-MeGreen guarantee on potted plants is...

(I suspect this plant is a bare root that was re-potted the previous fall and didn't have enough time to grow an effective root network before being sold in the spring)

We are glad to hear your trees arrived in good condition. Just a little clarification on the issues your tree seems to be having...
1) Blackened leaves are usually a sign of cold weather damage and not a poor root system. Did your area have colder than 32 degree weather once the tree arrived?
2) Though your assumption of re-potting bare root trees in the fall to sell in the spring is incorrect, even if it were the case, a poor root system will not showcase a 'good condition' tree to a 'black-leaf' tree in 24 hours. Again, this is more along the lines of frost damage.
3) We do not recommend planting trees the same day. We do state to rest the trees for a few days before planting so that the tree can acclimate and to reduce the risk of transplant shock.
All this being said, beit frost damage to leaves or transplant shock, whichever the tree is facing is most likely not a fatal condition and the tree should bounce back in 4-6 weeks. If it does not, we will gladly honor our 1-year replacement policy.
