Description

Bruce plums are wine-red medium to large fruit that ripen in late May to June. They are sweet and semi-acidic and can be used for canning or in desserts. If you want to save some of your plums for later, stick them in the fridge and they will keep for 6-8 weeks. The Bruce Plum tree is a Japanese plum tree, and as such should be planted near other plum trees like the Methley in order to be pollinated and produce fruit. The tree also requires 500 chill hours and grows to a mature height and width of 15 to 20 feet. USDA ZONES: Zone 5, Zone 6, Zone 7, Zone 8, Zone 9.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

To encourage a vigorous and high yielding plum tree, thin the tree's fruit in May and again in July, removing the damaged and diseased fruit so that the rest have room to grow. Prune plum trees in the winter. Regularly remove suckers from around the base of the tree.

Its growing

It came in a timely fashion, alive. It sat outside in the shade for a week waiting to be planted, and had no problems, it is now 14 days in and she is in the ground with lots of new growth. What else can be said. It is flowering.

Surviving a long tough trip

Bruce was planted 2 weeks ago after being 3 days late and a little beat up in the package. There is new growth and he seems to be thriving in the sandy soil. I will buy again from PMG as I use to be in the delivery business and know things happen, I might add that they did deliver the plum trees to me on Sunday out to the country.
