Description

The Kwanzan Cherry is a deciduous, flowering tree which yields a mass of fragrant, double pink blossoms in an upright, vase-shaped form (i.e. at maturity, the tree's spread is wider than the tree is tall). In the fall the foliage turns shades of yellow and orange, providing wonderful autumn colors for your yard or garden. The tree has a medium growth rate and is hardy to -05 degrees (Zones 5-9). The height and spread reach about 30-40 feet. Plant this tree in full sun with moist, well-drained soil.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Flowering cherry trees need 8 hours a day of direct sunlight and lots of water to thrive. Water regularly without over-watering. A slow, long watering is the best. Flowering cherries need a 4 foot diameter of unobstructed space to grow in. In order to encourage a strong tree structure and vigorous growth, prune in late fall or winter.
