Peach Trees - Caroking

Prunus persica
USDA Hardiness Zones: 8-May
Regular price $69.95
SKU: PCHCAK05G

Description

The Caroking peach is a more traditional, Southern peach, developed at Clemson University. The fruit has the typical, tangy, sweet, juicy, fabulous flavor, that calls to mind the long days of summer. Caroking peach is a good size fruit averaging from 2 ¾ to 3 inches in diameter and is an early variety that ripens in July or 26 days before Elberta. It has a very nice uniform, round shape and an excellent red overcolor (or blush). When you cut through the skin into the flesh you can see that it has yellow flesh. It is a melting flesh type and it is also freestone. It’s very well suited certainly for fresh eating, but also for making into ice cream, cobbler, smoothies, … pretty much anything you want! Its’ got that typical tanginess that comes from peaches with normal acidity that we associate with a Southern peach. Caroking peach is suitable for USDA Zones 5-8 and needs over 850 chill hours.

USDA ZONES:  Zone 5, Zone 6, Zone 7, Zone 8

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Plant peach trees in deep, well-drained, sandy soil and in an area with plenty of sunlight. Planting should be done in the spring. Prune once a year, removing vertical branches to encourage lateral growth.
