Description

Considered an heirloom tree, the Imoto Persimmon is a juicy, sweet, non-astringent fruit that has a mellow, cantaloupe-like flavor. Delicious fresh off the tree in the crisp stage or when allowed to soften. The Imoto persimmon tree has a smaller maturity height (average about 10-12 feet) and the beautiful fall foliage makes Imoto a nice ornamental. Imoto Fuyu asian persimmon is a selection that came from the late Mike Imoto of Lindsay, California. Imoto Fuyu is very similar to Jiro persimmons except that the fruit is a little larger and ripens 7-10 days earlier, making it a good choice for cooler climates. We graft the Imoto Fuyu persimmon onto native American persimmon root stock.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Plant persimmon trees in full sun to partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly after planting, until tree is established. Persimmon trees need about 40 inches of water every year. Persimmons only need pruning if limbs are crossing or in order to control the tree's size.

Nice big tree

To my surprise the tree was much bigger than expected, it was past 4 feet from the top of the pot. In the two weeks since delivery, it grew another foot! Plus the tree has 2 nice branches. I'm very happy with plant me green.

Excellent quality plants!

Ordered 2 Persimmon Imotos. Arrived in excellent condition. Taller than expected at 4 ft tall from graft. Caliper of trunk average for a 2 year old tree. Wish the root graft was Lotus as the kind used is prone to suckering.

Looks good

I received my Imoto Fuyu and it is dormant right now as I would expect. It looks good and healthy, however, and has nice buds on it. I look forward to seeing what happens next spring. This is the fifth tree I bought from Plant Me Green, having purchased the Ein Shemier apple, Flordaglo peach, and the Hood and Pineapple pear trees in the past, which are all doing very well and are now in the process of going dormant for the winter. No fruit yet from any of them, but they are still small and I understand it takes time.

Persimmon Trees - Imoto Fuyu (Non-Astringent)

So far so good. The tree arrived in apparent great shape, about two feet taller than advertised. I planted it, am watering it, and hoping it makes it through the winter.
