Description
The Arlen Blueberry is a standout northern highbush variety, celebrated for its robust growth, flavorful berries, and adaptability to cooler climates. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting, Arlen offers an exceptional combination of beauty, productivity, and hardiness.
Key Features:
- Exceptional Flavor: Produces large, sweet, and slightly tangy blueberries ideal for fresh eating, baking, or preserves.
- Reliable Yields: A mid- to late-season producer, ensuring a steady supply of berries during the summer.
- Cold Hardy: Specially bred for northern climates, thriving in USDA Zones 5–7.
- Ornamental Value: Displays vibrant green foliage in spring and summer, transitioning to fiery red hues in the fall.
Maturity Size:
- Height: 4–6 feet
- Width: 3–4 feet
Care Instructions:
- Soil: Requires acidic, well-drained soil with a pH of 4.5–5.5. Amend soil with organic material for best results.
- Sunlight: Full sun is essential for optimal growth and fruit production.
- Watering: Maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during flowering and fruiting stages. Avoid waterlogged soil.
- Pollination: While partially self-fertile, planting another northern highbush variety (like Bluecrop or Patriot) nearby will boost yields through cross-pollination.
- Pruning: Prune annually in late winter to remove dead or crowded wood and encourage strong new growth.
- Mulching: Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch to retain soil moisture, regulate temperature, and suppress weeds.
Why Choose Arlen Blueberry?
The Arlen Blueberry combines the best traits of a northern highbush variety, offering superior fruit quality and cold hardiness. Its adaptability makes it an excellent choice for home gardeners and small orchard enthusiasts in cooler regions. Beyond its productivity, Arlen adds ornamental charm with its vibrant fall foliage, making it as attractive as it is functional.

How to Plant

STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
