Description

Delta Blues™ is the first intermediate Vitex in the market. It is not nearly as coarse as other Vitex with a compact, rounded to upright growth habit. It has fragrant, dark bluish-purple flowers that attract butterflies and other pollinators. The foliage is dark green, fragrant and more refined than other selections. Delta Blues adapts to acid or alkaline soils as long as the site is well-drained. It is also salt tolerant.

Unique Features:

  • Compact Size: A more manageable size compared to traditional vitex varieties, making it perfect for small gardens and landscapes.
  • Vivid Blooms: Features showy lavender-blue flower spikes that bloom profusely from late spring through summer, with sporadic reblooming into fall.
  • Pollinator-Friendly: A magnet for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, adding life to your garden.
  • Aromatic Foliage: Distinctive gray-green, fragrant foliage adds texture and interest even when not in bloom.
  • Heat and Drought Tolerance: Thrives in hot climates and requires minimal water once established.

Mature Size:

  • Height: 6–8 feet
  • Spread: 6–8 feet

USDA Hardiness Zones:

  • Zones 6–9

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Requires full sun for best flowering and foliage color.
  • Soil: Adapts to a wide range of well-drained soils, including sandy and loamy types. Avoid overly wet or poorly drained sites.
  • Water: Drought-tolerant once established; water deeply during prolonged dry spells in the first growing season.
  • Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape, encourage denser growth, and promote vigorous blooming. Deadheading can encourage additional blooms in summer.
  • Fertilization: Minimal fertilization needed; apply a light dose of balanced fertilizer in early spring if desired.
  • Pest and Disease Resistance: Highly resistant to pests and diseases, making it a low-maintenance choice for landscapes.

The Delta Blues Vitex combines compact size, vibrant flowers, and resilience, making it an excellent choice for pollinator gardens, borders, or as a standout specimen. Its carefree nature and dazzling display ensure that it will become a favorite in any garden setting.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Plant your vitex in full sun and in well-drained soil. If you are planting in a container, it should be at least 32 inches deep and wide. If planting outside, create a 2 inch layer of mulch around the base after planting. Water once a week for the first growing season. Fertilize your vitex in the spring. Prune to encourage more blooming.

Best plant source

I order lots of plants online. This is the best deal I have found. The plants were in wonderful shape, good sized, and the shipping was fast and inexpensive compared to other sources I have used. I couldn't be more satisfied.
