With its robust growth, dual harvests, and attractive appearance, the Black Mission Fig is as versatile as it is delicious.
Key Features

- Extended Harvest: Enjoy two bountiful harvests – a smaller breba crop in early summer and a larger main crop in late summer to fall.
- Hardy and Productive: Highly productive and adaptable, thriving in a variety of growing conditions.
- Self-Pollinating: No need for a second tree; Black Mission Figs reliably produce abundant fruit on their own.
- Historic Heritage: A variety with roots dating back centuries, originating in Spain and brought to California in the 18th century.
Mature Size
- Height: 10–30 feet (can be pruned to a manageable size)
- Spread: 10–30 feet
USDA Hardiness Zones

Care Instructions
- Soil Requirements: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0).
- Sunlight: Requires full sun (6–8 hours daily) for optimal growth and fruit production.
- Watering: Water deeply and regularly, especially during the growing season. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent overwatering.
- Fertilization: Feed with a balanced fertilizer in early spring and mid-summer to support vigorous growth and fruiting.
- Pruning: Prune in late winter to shape the tree, encourage new growth, and maintain a manageable size.
- Winter Protection: In cooler regions, provide winter protection such as mulching around the base or wrapping the tree during extreme cold.
- Pest & Disease Management: Watch for common pests like aphids, scale, or spider mites. Ensure good air circulation and proper watering to minimize fungal diseases.

How to Plant
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
