Description

The Jonagold Apple is a highly regarded variety cherished for its large, juicy fruit and perfect balance of sweetness and tang. Developed in New York in 1943 from a cross between ‘Jonathan’ and ‘Golden Delicious,’ Jonagold combines the aromatic tartness of Jonathan with the smooth, honeyed sweetness of Golden Delicious. Its beautiful golden base and red-orange blush make it as attractive as it is delicious. Favored by both home gardeners and professional growers, Jonagold offers outstanding eating quality and versatility in the kitchen.

Key Features

Rich, Sweet-Tart Flavor: Combines the best of its parents — the honeyed sweetness of Golden Delicious with the tangy brightness of Jonathan.
Juicy, Crisp Texture: Firm yet tender flesh that delivers a refreshing crunch with every bite.
Striking Appearance: Large fruit with a golden-yellow base overlaid by red and orange blush.
Versatile Use: Excellent for fresh eating, baking, and cider — holds its flavor and texture beautifully when cooked.
Dependable Producer: Offers heavy mid-season yields of high-quality fruit with consistent performance.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Water apple trees regularly, making sure to keep the soil moist without drowning the tree. Prune in the winter while the tree is growing and in the summer once the tree has reached its desired height.
