Description
If it's color you crave, look no further. The vibrant tones of Anthony Waterer Spirea develops flowers that start out with an intense shade of carmine red. As the blooms age, they mellow into a deep rose pink. Flat-topped heads of rosy pink flowers cover this low, spreading shrub. Watch for butterflies. They adore these flat-topped blooms. New spring foliage is an attractive reddish purple. The foliage color matures to blue-green for summer. During most years in some areas, the plants can develop a deep burgundy fall color. This more compact form requires little pruning to maintain a neat size, making it ideal in the foreground of shrub borders. It can even be grown in outdoor on the balcony, porch, patio or deck. Anthony Waterer Spirea is a deciduous shrub, hardy in USDA zones 5 to 9.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

It tends to fill out right to the ground and therefore doesn't necessarily require facer plants in front. It grows at a fast rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 20 years. This shrub should only be grown in full sunlight. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. This particular variety is an interspecific hybrid.

Spirea to Iowa

The two spirea are really nice. Size and plant condition great. Your shipping containers anticipate and prevent handling damage. Great job. Only tiny problem is that Iowa does not have the nasty twisty, leaping earthworms. One of the spirea pots had two of these things. Yikes. I examined the soil as I planted to eliminate these invaders.
