The Shumard Oak is a drought tolerant, deciduous tree that will provide shade and beautiful fall foliage for your yard. It has a medium growth-rate and has a mature height of 60-80 ft. and spread of about 40- 60 ft. Along with the beautiful fall color, the Shumard also produces acorns, attracting wildlife like squirrels, deer, and turkey. It is native to North America and is hardy in Zones 5-9.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Plant oaks in an area where they have plenty of room to grow to their full size. Once established, oaks need very little maintenance. Since they are drought tolerant, they rarely need extra watering. They also rarely need pruning. If there are dead limbs, however, prune in winter.

Shumard Oak

I was very happy with the 4' Shumard Oak I ordered. It came in good healthy condition. This was a tree I was not able to find locally.

Unfortunately shipping really took a toll on the trees

All four Shumard Oaks were very wilted when I opened them. Two have recovered but the other two have not and I will need to ask for a refund. The two trees that survived came from the same box while the two that did not came from the same second box. That leads me to believe that the second box must have been exposed to much more heat than the other, Mark B.

Beautiful Tree!

I have ordered over 10 trees from this company and they all came within 2 days of shipping, packaged great, and the trees were very healthy and big. I ordered the #5 Shumard and it was almost 6 ft, full of leaves, and just an overall beautiful healthy tree. I definitely recommend ordering from this company, you want regret it!
