Description
A Classic, Early-Blooming Flowering Dogwood with Clouds of White Blossoms
The Cloud 9 Dogwood (Cornus florida 'Cloud 9') is a beloved ornamental tree, admired for its breathtaking early spring display of large, pure white blooms. Among the earliest flowering dogwoods, it creates the impression of a tree blanketed in clouds, making it a spectacular focal point in any garden or landscape. With its four seasons of charm—from its showy blossoms to its lush foliage, red fall color, and bright berries—it remains a timeless favorite for homeowners and gardeners alike.
Unique Features:
• Spectacular Blooms: Produces an abundance of large, snowy-white flower bracts in early spring, among the first of the dogwoods to bloom.
• Four-Season Beauty: Offers spring flowers, rich green summer foliage, vibrant red-purple autumn leaves, and bright red berries that persist into winter.
• Wildlife Appeal: Berries attract songbirds and other wildlife, adding life and movement to the landscape.
• Landscape Value: With its low, spreading form and dense canopy, Cloud 9 creates a striking specimen or understory accent.
Mature Size:
• Height: 15–20 feet
• Spread: 15–20 feet
USDA Hardiness Zones:
• Zones 5–9
Care Instructions:
• Light: Thrives in partial shade to full sun; morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal in warmer regions.
• Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils enriched with organic matter.
• Water: Requires deep, consistent watering, especially during establishment and in hot, dry weather.
• Pruning: Lightly prune in late winter to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches; maintain its natural form.
• Fertilizer: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support strong growth and flowering.
• Pests/Disease: Monitor for common issues such as dogwood anthracnose, powdery mildew, or borers; proper siting and care help reduce risk.
The Cloud 9 Dogwood is perfect for gardeners seeking a tree with classic elegance and reliable seasonal beauty. Its profusion of early white blooms, combined with its year-round interest, makes it a cherished choice for specimen planting, woodland gardens, or adding timeless grace to the home landscape.

How to Plant

STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
