Description

The Centurion crabapple tree develops into an oval-shape tree when mature. It bears reddish new foliage, rose-red flowers, and persistent red fruits, approximately 3/8” in diameter. It grows 25 feet tall and 20 feet wide. Very cold hardy flower buds burst open in early spring to masses of rose red blossoms that mature to cherry red fruit in fall. It has a high disease resistance. While Crabapples are not typically a food crop, the juice is used in jellies and added to other Apple varieties in cider. Crabapples are great pollinators for apple orchards due to their abundance of blooms. Attracts birds and butterflies. The wood is popular for smoking and they are quite frequently used in bonsai.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Crabapple trees need ample sun and water to grow. They take about a year to establish, and during that time need regular watering. Water for 10 minutes once a week during the hot days of summer and spring, and then decrease that to once a month in fall and winter months. Once crabapples are established they need little additional watering. Prune in the spring after the crabapple has stopped blooming.

It arrived in great shape. Packaging was designed well to protect the little tree from harm and keep it's roots moist for the journey from FL to OH. Looking forward to seeing it grow.
