The Summer Red Maple is a fast-growing maple that not only provides quick shade for your yard but also offers lovely color throughout the seasons. The leaves emerge burgundy-red each spring, mature to dark purplish green in the summer, then transition to shades of yellow, orange, and purple in the fall. A resilient shade tree, its defining feature is its canopy of leaves, which defy traditional color transitions. Resistant to diseases and effortlessly planted and tended to, this species provides thick shade that just becomes all the more lush and refreshing as the tree continues to steadily grow. With a 3-9 USDA hardiness zone rating, the Summer Red Maple is extremely adaptable to a spectrum of soils and climate conditions, enabling it to survive in practically every state of the nation. Its dense, broadly conical crown scrapes respectable heights of 35-40 ft and a spread of 20-25 feet. How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Maples prefer full sun or partial shade and may need to be staked when planted. Make sure to plant in an area where there is lots of room for the tree to grow. Create a 3-4 inch layer of mulch leaving room between the mulch and the tree's trunk. Water regularly after planting. Fertilize in spring and summer, and prune in late summer or early fall.
