Description

Kanza, was developed from a cross of ‘Major’ x ‘Shoshoni’. It is incredibly disease-resistant and is cold hardy. It was bred specifically for disease-resistance to pecan scab as well as other diseases and pests. At maturity it can reach a height between 70-100 feet and a spread of 60-80 feet. This grafted cultivar will bear in 5-7 years. Kanza ripens in mid to late October, producing a small, round nut similar to Elliot; 74 nuts per pound with 52% kernel. Kanza is a Type 2 pollinator.  The best pollinator is a Pawnee.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Pecan trees need water and sun in order to thrive. Be sure to plant in deep, moist, and well-drained soil. During the tree's first growing season, be sure to water regularly, about a gallon of water a day, (though you do not need to water every day in order to accomplish this). Prune pecan trees in the winter, making sure to prune lower hanging branches to encourage upward and lateral growth.

Very disappointed

I bought a Pawnee and an Elliot pecan tree the Pawnee has green leaves and looks healthy the Elliot is a stick with 2 broken branches and brittle no green it's apparently dead very disappointed as this was a gift to a dear friend.

A little stressed

The tree arrived slightly stressed. It arrived a day after the first tree, which was in beautiful shape. I am not sure if the order got split up or if the driver for some reason delivered both trees on the same day, but put one in the garage and one beside the garage. We didn’t find the Kanza tree until the day after we found the other one. The Kanza was planted right away, pruned back a bit, and I am hoping for the best. I am very pleased with the general healthy appearance if both trees.
