Paw Paw Trees - Seedling
Asimina trilobaUSDA Hardiness Zones: 5-9.
Description
The Paw Paw is a great choice if you are looking to add a dash of the tropics to your yard or garden area. The leaves of the Paw Paw are large and drooping with a tropical look to them. In April and May the small tree produces beautiful large flowers before producing medium-sized, edible fruit. The fruit has an unusual taste, somewhat like a mix of banana, pineapple, and mango. The tree is smallish, growing to only about 15-20 feet high and 20 feet wide. It has a rounded, upward growth habit that works well for group planting. The Paw Paw prefers full sun to partial shade and loose soil. It is hardy in Zones 5-9 and requires more than one tree in order to pollinate and produce fruit.
Our Paw Paw trees are grown from seedlings, they are not grafted. Paw Paw trees grown from seeds normally begin flowering and fruiting in 4-8 years, depending on location and the care the tree receives. Paw paw trees are not male or female; they are monoecious, meaning each tree has both male and female flowers. However, paw paws are not self-pollinating, so you’ll need another genetically different paw paw tree nearby for cross-pollination to produce fruit. When the tree matures, you’ll notice flowers with both male and female parts, but it’s still necessary to have more than one tree for fruit production.

How to Plant
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
