Description

The Paw Paw is a great choice if you are looking to add a dash of the tropics to your yard or garden area. The leaves of the Paw Paw are large and drooping with a tropical look to them. In April and May the small tree produces  beautiful large flowers before producing medium-sized, edible fruit. The fruit has an unusual taste, somewhat like a mix of banana, pineapple, and mango. The tree is smallish, growing to only about 15-20 feet high and 20 feet wide. It has a rounded, upward growth habit that works well for group planting. The Paw Paw prefers full sun to partial shade and loose soil. It is hardy in Zones 5-9 and requires more than one tree in order to pollinate and produce fruit.

Our Paw Paw trees are grown from seedlings, they are not grafted. Paw Paw trees grown from seeds normally begin flowering and fruiting in 4-8 years, depending on location and the care the tree receives. Paw paw trees are not male or female; they are monoecious, meaning each tree has both male and female flowers. However, paw paws are not self-pollinating, so you’ll need another genetically different paw paw tree nearby for cross-pollination to produce fruit. When the tree matures, you’ll notice flowers with both male and female parts, but it’s still necessary to have more than one tree for fruit production.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Plant your Paw Paw in a sunny area that has slightly acidic soil. Try to find an area that is also sheltered from strong winds. Water regularly during the tree's first growing season. Fertilize in the spring and summer.

Dried Leaves w/Brown Spots & Holes

Usually very happy with shipments from Plant Me Green except for this order of 2 Paw Paw Trees; their leaves are loaded with brown spots & holes upon receipt. Never received trees looking like this before. I am working at trying to save these Paw Paws before I reach out for refund. If I could post pictures here I would but there is no option to do so.

Good service

I just got my pawpaw tree today, and it came in good condition. I am pleased because it is an actual live tree in a pot with with a good amount of leaves on it, and it is larger than I expected instead of a lifeless stick with no leaves or dirt on the roots or anything. I wish I had bought from them earlier.
