Description

Contender peach, a cold tolerant variety, provides a crop of big yellow fruit just when other peach trees are slowing down. The skin is a red-orange color while the flesh is sweet and yellow. The flesh of the peach is firm and resists browning, and the freestone pit removes easily. Tolerant of late-spring frost, Contender's a good choice in growing zones where other peaches falter. Contender is self pollinating. The fruit ripens in mid to late August. Requires 1050 chill hours. At maturity, the Contender is approximately 10-15 feet in height and width.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Plant peach trees in deep, well-drained, sandy soil and in an area with plenty of sunlight. Planting should be done in the spring. Prune once a year, removing vertical branches to encourage lateral growth.

Smaller than I thought, but very happy.

The contender tree was smaller than I thought for the price. But shipping was very fast. Fingers crossed this zone 4 each tree can stand up to Minnesota weather.

Good & Healthy Trees

I ordered two peach trees. They were good and healthy when they arrived here. I have planted them in my yard and I look forward to having some peaches next year.

Big, Nice Tree!

Well, my 'Contender' doesn't quite look like the example on the website, lol, but it is a healthy, much taller peach than I expected! Shipped quickly. Very well packaged (i.e., protected), came with planting/care instructions. Very happy. All around excellent purchase!
