Description

The Black Mission Fig is a self pollinating tree, and is one of the most dependable backyard varieties sold today. This tree produces a large fruit with a purplish-black skin during both the summer and the fall months. The average size of this plant is 40 feet high and 60 feet wide and requires full sun exposure and regular watering. These large, full-flavored fruits can be eaten fresh or used for drying and canning purposes. The Black Mission Fig is hardy in Zones 7-10.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Plant fig trees in loamy soil and in a northern exposure. They need plenty of sunlight and room in order to grow and thrive. Fertilize once a year. Fig trees only require light pruning which should be done in late winter.

Biblical Proportions

I am so pleased with our new fig tree! She arrived dormant, and although that is how it was described, I was still concerned. However, we have had her about two weeks now and she is GLORIOUS. You can see leaf growth on the same day, from morning until afternoon. I’m so excited for the figs to come. Thank you!

Black Mission and Brown Turkey

I received a Black Mission and a Brown Turkey fig trees #7 pots in excellent condition. After a week in the ground they were well adjusted and looking great!!
In the same order, I got a eucalyptus Cinerea #1 pot in very sad condition. The tree is not dead, it just looks like the tree I would have never chosen had I’ve been at the nursery. I give a 5 star review to the figs and a 2 star review to the quality of the eucalyptus.

Was told this fig tree will pollinate the figs without the need for the wasps....The tree came packaged well . Will give a review in a year after the tree has time to produce figs that ripen.
