Description

A Graceful, Pure-White Rose of Sharon with Timeless Elegance

The Diana Althea (Hibiscus syriacus 'Diana') is a refined Rose of Sharon variety, celebrated for its large, snow-white blossoms that radiate elegance and simplicity. Unlike many other cultivars, Diana is nearly seedless, meaning fewer unwanted seedlings and a cleaner landscape. This deciduous shrub brings a serene, classic beauty to gardens, making it a perfect choice for ornamental borders, hedges, or as a striking specimen plant. With its long-lasting bloom season and easy-care nature, Diana ensures lasting garden charm.

Unique Features:

  • Pure White Blooms: Large, luminous flowers create a serene and sophisticated display.

  • Non-Invasive: Nearly seedless variety minimizes unwanted reseeding in the garden.

  • Extended Blooming: Produces abundant flowers from midsummer through fall, offering weeks of color.

  • Low Maintenance: Hardy, heat-tolerant, and drought-resistant once established.

Mature Size:

  • Height: 8–12 feet

  • Spread: 6–8 feet

USDA Hardiness Zones:

  • Zones 5–8

Care Instructions:

  • Light: Prefers full sun to part shade; 6+ hours of sunlight daily enhances blooming.

  • Soil: Grows well in a wide range of soils but thrives in fertile, well-drained conditions.

  • Water: Water regularly during the first season. Once established, tolerates moderate drought but benefits from deep watering during extended dry periods.

  • Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape and encourage vigorous new growth, as blooms form on new wood.

  • Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring to promote strong growth and abundant flowering.

  • Pests/Disease: Resistant to most common pests and diseases. Maintain good airflow and watch for occasional aphids or beetles.

The Diana Althea is perfect for gardeners who appreciate understated elegance and reliability. Its pure white flowers, nearly seedless habit, and low-maintenance care make it an exceptional choice for creating a refined and graceful garden presence.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
