Description

The King Luscious Apple is a distinguished variety celebrated for its exceptionally large fruit, rich flavor, and crisp texture. Originating from North Carolina, this variety produces apples that can weigh nearly a pound each — living up to its “King” title. The fruit combines sweetness with a pleasant tang, making it ideal for fresh eating, baking, and cider. Its attractive red-striped skin and creamy white flesh make it as beautiful as it is delicious, and it performs well in cooler climates with reliable annual crops.

Key Features

Exceptional Size: Bears extra-large apples, often up to one pound each — among the largest of any dessert apple variety.
Rich, Balanced Flavor: Offers a superb sweet-tart flavor with aromatic undertones, excellent for fresh eating or cooking.
Crisp, Juicy Flesh: Firm, fine-grained flesh retains its crunch and juiciness long after harvest.
Attractive Appearance: Red-striped skin over a yellow background gives each apple striking visual appeal.
Late-Season Harvest: Ripens in early to mid-fall, extending the apple season for home growers.

Care Instructions

Sunlight: Full sun (at least 6–8 hours daily) for best fruit color and sugar development.

Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, especially during fruit development and dry spells; mulch to retain soil moisture.
Pruning: Prune annually in late winter to shape the canopy, remove crowded limbs, and encourage strong fruiting wood.
Pollination: Requires cross-pollination with another mid- to late-blooming variety such as ‘Fuji,’ ‘Honeycrisp,’ or ‘Granny Smith’ for maximum yield.

Landscape Uses

• Excellent choice for home orchards, edible landscapes, or small farm production.
• Ideal for fresh eating, pies, cider, and applesauce.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Water apple trees regularly, making sure to keep the soil moist without drowning the tree. Prune in the winter while the tree is growing and in the summer once the tree has reached its desired height.
