How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Pecan trees need water and sun in order to thrive. Be sure to plant in deep, moist, and well-drained soil. During the tree's first growing season, be sure to water regularly, about a gallon of water a day, (though you do not need to water every day in order to accomplish this). Prune pecan trees in the winter, making sure to prune lower hanging branches to encourage upward and lateral growth.

Arrived

Two Amlings arrived in decent shape...afraid the travel was hard on them as they appear to be dying. Will keep watering and wait to see. :-(

Looking Good

The amling pecan tree arrived well packaged and quickly. We planted it the next day just in time for some nice autumn rains. Looking forward to some pecan pies!

Plants died immediately after planting in the ground.

Plants died as soon as I planted them in the ground.

Hello Matthew,

We are so sorry to hear your tree has failed to thrive! We do have a 1 year replacement policy for our potted trees. Our customer service team will be sending you the instructions to start the procedure to receive your replacement plant. Other possible scenarios for your tree could be dormancy (this time of year the leaves start falling off) or transplant shock.

Thank you, Plant Me Green Customer Service

large pecan tree

I ordered a 3-4 foot tree and got an almost 6 foot tree. I read I am supposed to cut two feet off the top. I just can't do it. Maybe in the spring I will have the nerve. I wish this had been professionally done prior to delivery. The roots were circling the inside the pot and I did my best to loosen and spread some out. It is a beautiful healthy tree that was hard to find in stock at other nurseries. It was well packaged. I planted it in late September in piedmont NC to be friends with an established Stuart who refused to be friends with a Pawnee.
